Bring on Summer 2012

Posted in Summer 2012 on February 11, 2012 by Tim

Time to start to get excited about another summer at camp – only 4 months to go until I’m back on the island, so now we start counting down…

Planning is underway for an even bigger and better summer than we have ever seen at Camp Lawrence.

Registrations are filling up fast this year which is awesome to see, and with a full camp so much more fun and excitement can be had than a camp which is only at 80% capacity…  Doesn’t seem like it would be a big difference, but those extra 30-40 people have a huge impact on the atmosphere around camp.  If you are reading this and thinking about coming to camp this summer, get in touch with the Camping Services Office and register now to avoid missing out!

This is the time of the year when I start to get my smile on…  The build-up to camp brings so much joy and excitement to my days, as I anticipate catching up with friends I haven’t seen in ages, and getting back to the fun island adventure that is a summer at Camp Lawrence.  It’s also the time when I like to reflect on the past summers with the camp’s final video from previous years.  There are some days where I’ll watch several years’ worth in one sitting…  The 2011 Camp Lawrence Final Video has made it online.  If you want to check it out, here it is:

What do I look forward to the most?

  • Seeing campers and staff again
  • Meeting the new campers
  • Hearing stories from parents

Something I find especially rewarding is supporting the homesick through their first sleepaway camp experience and watching the tears when campers leave at the end of a session.  Also, a big part of camp for me is inviting the first year CIT’s into camp as a part of the team that runs camp and seeing them grow over the summer, and then there are the second year CIT’s who finally get the chance to prove themselves as cabin counselors and mentors/leaders for other campers.

I have the greatest role at camp, as I get to experience all this cool stuff.  It is so much fun, and hugely rewarding.  How do you give that up for the ‘real world’? I didn’t – I made it my ‘real world’ and love every minute of it!
