Welcome to 2012!
We have seen the end of 2011, and its horrible deadly earthquakes and tsunamis, and its other challenges. We have also farewelled the summer (even in NZ it seems today!). The months from the end of camp until the end of the year are hard ones for me. This is when I suffer from post-camp depression. It is the time when I really want to still be at camp, but alas am back in New Zealand sitting at my desk plodding along with other projects. Camp is still where I want to be, and those months are hard as you are always thinking of the summer that has been and reflecting back rather than looking forward.
Now that all changes… As soon as we enter the New Year, my focus changes. I am busy at work, and this also helps to distract me. But mainly, instead of thinking of what I’m missing, I start thinking about what I have to look forward to. Summer 2012 – here I come! Planning starts to get underway – planning the summer, planning my travels, planning my first taste of Sam Adams Boston Lager of the year (with a serving of buffalo wings of course), lots and lots of planning. I also start to think about catching up with everyone I have been missing the last few months. The excitement builds as time goes on now. We are also starting to see lots of other Kiwi’s getting placed into Summer Camp USA jobs across America which only fuels my excitement as I get to share in theirs.
Man I love my job!
